When you think about stress, you probably think of it as a negative thing. But stress can actually be positive, too. For example, let's say you have a test on Thursday. You have a choice: study or go hang out with your friends. Positive stress will get you to hit the books so that you will ace that test. Positive stress is purposeful, drives you to be goal-oriented and will help eliminate negative stress.
Negative stress is the kind of stress that can happen if you worry about that test so much that you can't sleep, can't eat and can't focus, sending you into panic mode and making you doubt whether you can succeed.
We've put together a list of some things you can do to help manage the negative stress and put yourself on a positive path to success.
GET SOME EXERCISE - Physical activity releases natural endorphins, which make you feel great and can alleviate stress.
EAT HEALTHY FOODS - Avoid foods high in fat, sugar and sodium. Eat healthy snacks and don't skip meals.
TAKE BREAKS - Schedule a few short breaks throughout the day to help minimize your stress. Stretch, go for a walk, call a friend. When you get back to what you were doing, you'll work more efficiently.
LEARN TO SAY NO - Don't feel guilty when you have to tell others no. Taking on additional work when you are already too busy will only make things worse.
